How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Routine maintenance is extremely important to keeping a healthy vehicle. A healthy car gives you smoother rides on Orland Park and better safety when driving you and your passengers to Mokena. Most people consider oil changes to be the biggest part of routine maintenance, but it’s certainly not the only part. It includes a variety of small things that make a big difference when you drive your car. Rotating your tires is when you rotate your current tires to a new, specific location on your car. Our service department is often asked, “How often should you rotate your tires?”. In general, your tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles depending on your driving habits. Learn more about when to rotate your tires below!

RWD vs FWD Tire Rotation

Pay attention to the type of drivetrain you have because it will show how your tires will be rotated. In FWD vehicles, the driveshaft is connected to the front wheels, while in RWD vehicles, it is connected to the rear wheels. We explained the rotation process below if you want to perform it yourself:

  • Regardless of which drivetrain you have, you should get your tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Check your owner’s manual to get the exact number for your specific vehicle.
  • To rotate tires on FWD cars, first turn the rear tires counterclockwise. The right-rear tire will be mounted on the left-front wheel, and the left-rear tire will be mounted on the right-front wheel. Mount the original front tires to the rear wheel on the same side (i.e., the right-front tire will be mounted on the right-rear wheel).
  • For RWD, you’ll simply do the opposite of the FWD rotation. The front tires will be moved to the rear opposite wheel, and the rear tires will be mounted to the front wheel on the same side.

How Many Miles to Rotate Tires on an AWD Vehicle

Do you have an AWD drivetrain? How many miles to rotate tires on AWD vehicles? Your tire rotation frequency will be a bit different than FWD or RWD vehicles. AWD car owners should rotate their tires every 3,000-5,000 miles. This is due to the difference in tire speeds and torque requirements, causing the tires to wear down quicker than FWD and RWD tires. .
